Two-Dimensional Spin-Wave Spectrum in (C_4H_9NH_3)_2CuCl_4 by Parallel Pumping Measurements

Parallel pumping and ferromagnetic resonance experiments in (C4H,NH,).CUC14 at 8.9 GHz and liquid helium temperatures show that in the magneticfield tilted away from the a- and Z>-axes the spin-wave spectrum splits into twobranches and the width of the spin-wave band becomes narrow. These results areunderstood as follows: the spin-wave frequency of one aZ>-plane is different fromthose of the aZ>-planes immediately above and below because the'interlayer ex-change interaction is very weak and the adjacent layers are magnetically inequiva-lent and therefore the exchange and dipolar iilteractions of the transversecomponents of the spin precessions between adjacent layers vanish. Quantitativea:eement between experim<but and spin-wave theory is obtained. Accordingly itcan be concluded that the spin-wave spectrum is indeed two-dimensional.
