1VIultielectron excitations (IVIEF,) have been investigatted tmsit'xg X-ray na;tgnetic circttlar' dichro-istaa at the A-edge in 3d transition rauet?tl ['errounsrgtaetic and ferritn;tgnetic conapotrnds. TheIVIEE dichroic signal is located in the energy range 50 to 70 eV arlcove the absorption edge, Theintensity is of the order of 10 ' of' the photo?tbsorjction, counparable to the diclaroisraa observedarotrrnd the edge, The energy position is dependettt on the ?tbsor1oittg naagnetic atonns rather tharnthe vnaterial strtrctures. The etaergy difference betweera the A-edge and the llvIEE peak varrieslinearly xvith flue atouauic ntrtanber Z, ?tnd is related to the ?x1csorjotion errergy of' tlae A#3,3-edge oftlae (Z-4-l) atoraa. These feattrres sttggest tluat tlte 3d-states l12lX'C a significatut contribtrtion to theIVIEE process. XVe propose that tlais IVIEE I)l'lCI1Ol11011011 is dtre to tlae stzper Cosier-Kronig tr?tnsitions described as the final state (l.s)'(37t)'(3d)"", ita wlaicla txvo electrorus ?tre sinaattltaneotrslyexcited to the 3d-orbitals.
