Demagnetizing Effects on Antiferromagnetic Resonance in CsNiF_3

Antiferromagnetic resonance in CsNiF. has been investigated at 35, 24 and 9GHz bands between I=I.3 K and the N<Set temperature (7'.=2.61 K). Tjeresonance frequencies are seriously dependent on sample shape. The results can beunderstood by a molecular field theory including both the surface demagnetiza-tion and the Lorentz fields. The critical field of the phase transition from thespin-flop to the paramagnetic phase has been obtained. The data at T=1.4 Kallow a determination of the parameters : antiferromagnetic interchain exchangefield #r=990i50 Oe, in-rlane anisotror>' field #A1 =2I0:[20 Oe and sublatticemagnetization M=96#5 emu/cm'. The in-plane anisotropy due to the dipolarinteraction is estimated to be 245 Oe in reasonable agreement with the observa-lion. From the zero-field gap frequency a large negative anisotropy along thec-axis is dtermined to be ffxz=60i3 k0e or D/k=9.210.5 K.
