X-Ray Resonance Exchange Scattering at the Nd L_<2,3>-Edges in Nd_2Fe_<14>B

X-ray resonance exchange scattering has been measured at the Nd L... absorptionedges on the (440) Bragg reflection in a ferromagnetic Nd,Fe..B single crystal. Themagnetic spectrum at the Az-edge reflects the spin polarization of unoccupied 5d-bands of Nd due to electric dipole transitions. The magnetic spectrum at the A,-edgeshows a more complicated structure than that at the Z,.-edge. The difference inmagnetic spectra between the L.- and L,-edges is discussed from the viewpoints of LScoupling in 5d-bands and the contributions of electric quadrupole transitions to thehighly localized and partially vacant 4/-states.[X-ray resonance exchange scattering, Nd,Fe..B compound, spin polarization, l] electric multipole transitions, LS couplingl
