A pulse naagnet is applied to 2111 experiment on nuagnetic Compton scattering using circularlypolarized synchrotron-radiation X-rays. The sample is c-axis oriented SmCo5, which is knownto be a hard rnagnetic materials. Consectrtive pulsed magnetic fields of l1.7tesla are trsed torepeatedly reverse the magnetization direction of the sara'xple. The ttaeasurenaent is done withresidvral magnetization of the sample at roona temperature. The naagnetic Cornpton profile isfound to be xvell-reprodtrced by a combination of a theoretical Srn-4 f profile and an experimentalCo profile. On the assumption that the Co spin rnoment in the hexagonal syrnrnetry is l.56pp,the Sna-4/ spin nuornent is evalttated to be -l.79pp which is quite srnaI[ compared with tlaeexpected spin rnonaent 3.57p3 for the Srau grotrnd state (J :: 5/2 Ai3 : 5/2). This experirnentsuggests for the first tirne the feasibility of using ptr[se rauagnets for X-ray rtaagnetic scatteringand absorption rneasuretnents on hard tnagnetic materials.
