Ground State Geometries and Electronic States of Li-Na Clusters by an ab initio Pseudopotential Calculation

• The Tonic configuration and the electronic properties of the grotrnd states of Na,y and LiNa,y 1(,V< 8) clusters are investigated by an ab initio psetrdopotential calculation, in which the elec-tronic states are calctrlated by the density functional theory in the local spin-density approx-imation using the norun-conserving psetrdopotentials and the total energy is minimized by thecon.jugate gradient method. It is shown that the Li atona is located near the center of LiNa,y 1clusters and that this f'eature can be explained based on the difference in the employed pseu-dopotentials for Li and Na ions and on the electronic density distributions of the clusters. Theobserved Li enrichraaent in the mass spectra and its size depezudence can also be explained.
