Electric field effects on fish and worms have been studied assuming that the seismic animalanomalous behaviors (SAABs) witnessed prior to the Hansin Earthquake were caused by seismicelectric current. Japanese minnows, guppies and loaches responded to the current and alignedperpendicular to the field direction and earthworms swarmed, which are forms of SAABs, ata current density of J : 0.1 '! 1 Arm' presumably to reduce the effects of the field, F. Amathematical model of a fault was used to express the seismic stress, oat) corresponding to afault displacement, D(t). An electromagnetic model of a fault, where a bound charge density,q which compensate the piezoelectric polarization, appears due to the release of seismic stressis used to derive clq/dt : -ox(do/dt) - q/ep, F o q/e and J : F/p'. Using the piezoelectriccoefficient, ox, dielectric constant, E and the resistivity, p of bedrock granite and p' of water givesJ : l A / m' in concordance with the experiments.
