Trapping of K-dV Solitons in Sinusoidally Nonuniform Media with Weak Dissipation

Propagation of solitons in nonuniform media is examined by the K-dV equationwith sinusoidal nonuniformity and dissipation terms. Under a certain balanced statebetween these two terms, it is observed numerically, for txvo different types of dissipa-lion, that the soliton is trapped on some phase point of the medium and behaves likea localized pulse. This trapping can be explained fairly well by the soliton-perturbalion approach when the nonuniformity is moderate and the dissipation is weak.[K-dV system, soliton, nonuniformity, dissipation, soliton-trapping, localized ll pulse, soliton-perturbation[
