Fast and Slow Mode Solitons on a Coupled Transmission Line

By using a nonlinear coupled transmission line which cc>nsists of two LC ladderlines connected by intermediary capacitors, characteristic properties of fast and slowmode solitons and their collisions (both overtaking and head-on collisions) are examined experimentally. The observed results show a goocl agreement with thosepredicted by the second order Korteweg-de Vries (K-dV) theory except for the phaseshifts due to the collisions. A similarity of this line to a two-layer fluid in the longgravity wave region is also discussed.
