Asymptotic Behaviour of a Negative Rectangular Pulse on a Nonlinear LC Ladder Line

Using a nonlinear LC ladder line which simulates an anharmonic lattice, theasymptotic behaviour of a long wave in the absence of solitons has been studiedexperimentally. In this experiment, we observe that an input negative rectangular pulseproduces, instead of solitons, a long negative triangular wave followed by a train ofhighly oscillatory waves. Both the leading triangula?" wave and the oscillatory wavesdecrease their amplitudes during a course of propagation. The amplitude, shape anddecay rate of the leading wave observed by the experiment are well compared with thoseobtained from the numerical analysis of the line. A quantitative comparison is alsomade with the results based on the Korteweg-de Vries (K-dV) asymptotic theory.
