Two-dimensional resonant interaction between an internal gravity wave and a sur-face gravity wave packet in a two-layer fluid is investigated. The equations describingthis interaction are derived. Modulational instability of a plane wave solution of theequations is discussed. Some interesting solutions which follow from a two-solitonsolution to these equations are given.[long-short wave interaction, resonance, internal gravity wave, surface gravity Il wave, soliton, modulational instabilityl
