Initial-value problem of two-djmensio?aa] reflection of solitary waves in shallowwater is studied with a finite-difference metlaod. If x>Vie (a=the. angle ofincidence, e=ct/It, a=wave aunplitude, h =undisturbed depth), thcs solutionrepresexats a regular reflection pattern wlaich is composed of incident an?ci reflectedwaves. On tlte other hand, if a< V' 3a, a Mach reflection pattern whic.h consistsof three obliquely oriented solitary xvaves is obtained as an asynvptotic: solution. This solution agrees very well with the resonantly interacting solitary wavesolution predicted by Miles. The run-up at the wall is considerably 1;nrger tltanthat in linearized theory when oc is close to V.?e, and this result is cons:istent withthat predicted by Miles. It requires the time of order 10Oh/Vttg (.(=gr;nvitationalacceleration) to reach stationary Mach reflectiona patterns when z=0.O6i.
