Lattice Location Study on H in Ta by the Channeling Method

By the channeling method using the nuclear reaction 'II("B, cc)cccr, the lattice loca-lion of H in TaH....(a-phase) was determined at room temperature, and the effect ofstrain on the hydrogen location was investigated by introducing internal strains bythermal cycling that gives rise to precipitation and redissolution of the /7-phase. It isconcluded that hydrogen atoms are located at tetrahedral sites in the cv-phase of a Ta-H system, and the location does not change by such thermal cycling. Compared withthe previous results on H in V and Nb, the present result in.dicates that the hydrogenlocation in Ta is less sensitive to the strain than in V as in the case of Nb.
