The electronic properties of liquid Se containing Na, K, Cl, Br and I have beenmeasured. The addition of alkali impurities causes a substantial increase in the elec-trical conductivity o and changes the thermoelectric power S from positive to largenegative. When halogen impurities are added to liquid Se, o increases remarkably andS remains positive. No appreciable change in paramagnetic susceptibity is induced byalkali or halogen doping. The alkali doping produces a new optical absorption bandnear the absorption edge of pure liquid Se, while no appreciable change in the absorp-lion curves can be detected for the halogen doping. It is pointed out that the Fermilevel is shifted owing to the charge transfer from the dopant element to Se chains.
