Quasielastic neutron scattering meastmrernents were carried out at room temperature f'or liquidS2Cl2, SzBr3, Se3Clz and SezBr3, which are conaposed of the unolecules having the X-A-A-X typechain unit, X and A being halogen and chalcogen atoms. The rneasurerments were perforrrtedat the scattering wave vectors of 0.98, 1.55, 2.32 and 2.66 A ' by using AGNBS spectrouneterinstalled in JAERI. By analyzing the interzaaediate scattering f'unction, which was obtained byFourier transform of the observed dynatnic strtrcture f'actor, a fast and a slow relaxation processeshave been found. The fast process, whose relaxation time is less than l picosecond, may beassigned to fltrctuations in the dihedral ?rngle within the rnolecule, while the slow process, whosereI?txation titne depends strongly on the moIecul?rr xveight, rnay Ice assigned to the translationaldifltrsion of the molecule.
