The mechanism of the ferroelectric phase transition of CsD.P0. was inves-tigated by examining the crystal structures determined by X-ray structure analysisat seven different temperatures above and below the transition temperature T..The PG. group has two equilibrium arrangements in the paraelectric phase whileonly one of them remains in the ferroelectric phase. The thermal amplitude ofthe D atom which forms a one-dimensional chain along the ferroelectric 6-axisreduces drastically at T. with decreasing temperattn'e. These results are welldescribed on the basis of the mechanism of the order-disorder type phase transition.
