Charge density wave (CDW) states of 2H-TaSe. are studied on the basis ofJacobs and Walker's free energy. Discommensuration (DC) structures are in-spected in detail under the situation where the stable commensurate.(C) statechange from one to another as the interlayer coupling constant is increased.Ntunerical calculations, in which a sufficiently large ntunber of harmonics aretaken into account, exhibit double hoqeycomb, triangular and hexagonal DCstructures. The formation mechanism of various DC structures is discussed andcompared with McMillan's DC diagram. Crossing over between different DCstructures is also studied. Phase diagrams in the temperature and interlayercoupling plane are constructed to explain the re-entrant lock-in transition of2H-TaSe.. In this cormection a suggestion is made on the nature of the high-pressure C state.
