A study is made on an !sing spin system on a triangular (actually hexagonal)lattice which contains the couplings of the nearest neighbor (.Z.) and the next-nearest neighbor (.Z.<0: antiferromagnetic). A mean field approximation isemployed. Infinite numbers of higher-order commensurate structures withone-dimensional modulation are shown to be stabilized at finite temperatures.Analytic calculations are performed at low temperatures to find that the modelexhibits a complete devil's staircase at J.>0 and ordinary staircases with in-finite steps at J.<0 and J. (2l.7'.l. It is shown that most of the phases stabilizedaround ./.=0 are partially disordered states. Numerical calculations are alsomade to construct a global phase diagram. The structure of the phase diagramis discussed in terms of domain boundary. In this context the order-disordertransition of (Nbj ,Ta.).C is compared with the theory.
