The surface enhanced Raman scattering is studied theoretically for moleculesadsorbed on a cylindrical grating. The local field and the Raman light from theadsorbed molecules are treated exactly. A numerical calculation shows that theRaman intensity is enhanced by a factor of 10' - 10' over that from a free moleculefor both metallic and dielectric gratings.The Raman spectrum depends on the emitted phonon mode as well as on theorientation of the adsorbed molecules. Such dependences are illustrated by con-sidering various Raman tensors.
