Analytical estimate of the forma.tion energy, E, of a soliton is pevrformed fora system of strongly correlated one-dimensional m-electrons coupled to latticedistortions. The problem is first transformed into that of a spin-Peic:rls syste?nsand then the spin degrees of freednom are represented by the phase J-[amiltonianwith the help of the boson repres;entation of the spinless fermions. FollowingCross and Fisher, parameters in this phase Hanailtonian are adjusted so that thespin wave velocity and the critical exponent of the correlation functiorx agree withthe exact results. The soliton solution of the resulting quantum sine-Gordonsystems is constructed by the metltod of Dashen et at. The result is applied topolyacetylene, where we obtain E.t0.3 eV, which is close to the valr?e estimatedby Su et al. for the non-interacting systems.
