Non-Metallic Behaviors of Two-Dimensional Metals and Effect of Intervalley Impurity Scattering

It is shown that the prefactor of the logarithmic correction to the twodimensional classical conductivity is dependent on the relative rate of intervalley impurity scattering, τ′^<-1>, and the inelastic scattering, τ_ε^<-1>. In the limit of τ_ε/τ′→∞, the factor is reduced by n_υ^<-1> compared to that in the absence of intervalley scattering Here n_υ is the number of degenerate valleys. This effect of intervalley impurity scattering together with that of mutual interactions can explain the general tendency of experimental result on Si-MOS.
