The Glauber approximation for an inelastic Coulomb scattering is first appliedto the ionization process of hydrogenic ions by taking account of the asymptoticCoulomb interaction. The result of integrated ionization cross sections in thenon-exchange approximation is compared with the corresponding Coulomb-Born result and it is shown that the Glauber result is in reasonable agreement withexperimental data. The reduced cross section in the limit of infinitely large nuclearcharge is also evaluated for hydrogenic heavy tons from the general and practicalpoint of view.
