A two-nucleon emission process following in-flight pion absorption by nuclei is studied in a microscopic description involving the rescattering as well as the direct absorption. The absorption cross section is calculated by taking a simultaneous account of the initial pion distortion and of the final interaction concerned with the two emitted nucleons. It turns out from the result that the absorption cross section depends greatly on the off-shell behavior of the pion distorted by the optical potential.
