Electron State in NaF Studied by Compton Scattering Measurement

The electron state in NaF was studied by the Compton profile analysis on a powder sample, with AgKα radiation. The measured profile has proved to agree with the theoretical profile calculated from the wave functions of isolated Na^+ and F^- ions far better than with the profile from those of Na^0 and F^〓. However, the discrepancy still existing suggested that the solid state effect should be taken into account with respect to the relevant wave functions. In Appendices, description is given on the spherically averaged Compton profile and on calculation of intensity of inelastic scattering by atoms (Na^+ and F^- with a closed shell, Na^0 with a half-closed shell and F^- with an open shell), as required in the present in vestigation.
