In order to investigate soliton phenomena in electron bearn plasma, the unstablenonlinear Schr6dinger equation i7.-F- q, -l- 2 l q l'q = 0 is studied. By the inverse scattering method, initial value problem is solved for a class of decreasing functions. Twospecial initial conditions are examined in detail. Based on the results, properties androles of solitons in unstable nonlinear systems are discussed.
