The Grad-Shafranov equation for a prolate spheroidal plasma is solved byusing the prolate spheroidal coordinates. The magnetic field in the vacuum regionsurrounding the plasma is cletermined by use of the Maxwell equation and thepressure-balance condition on tire plasma-vacutum interface. The result obtainedin this letter is an exact solution to the magnetohydrodynamic equilibriumequation. The magnetic-field configuration of the spheroidal plasma is foundto be considerably different from that of the spherical plasma.
