A sufficient criterion for MIID stability is derived by use of the energy principle. This is a generalization of the criterion of Rosenbluth. The sufficient criterion isapplied to a cylindrical plasma. It is also applied to a field-reversed configuration(FRC). It is found that the FRC considered here does not satisfy the criterion.
