Electron Cyclotron Damping in a Low Density Plasma

The damping of right (R)-hand circularly polarized microwave through a magneto cesium plasma are investigated experimentally. The R-wave damps sharply at electron cyclotron frequency ω_p, and is power absorption coefficient and refractive index are about 0.33/cm and 1.0 respectively under the conditions of (ω_p/ω)^2=9.8×10^<-5> and T_e=3500K, where ω_p/ω and T_e are the normalized electron density and the electron temperature. These results are in reasonable agreement with the electron cyclotron damping predicted by the hot plasma theory.
