Electron Confining Potential When the Electrons Have Finite Axial Loss Time

The electron distribution function is derived analytically with the linearized Fokker-Planck equation in order to analyze the electron confining potential in the geometry of mirror ratio R≪1. The magnitude of the potential is determined by the electron axial loss time (transit time) τ_⫽ when τ_⫽ is longer than the coulomb collision time τ, on the other hand the magnitude of the potential depends mainly on τ when τ_⫽ ≲ τ. Especially, it is found that the electron confining potential does not depend on the emission rate γ of electrons hitting the wall as long as τ_⫽≪τ. The bounce-averaged nonlinear Fokker-Planck simulation is carried out in order to investigate the electron confining potential in the case of R = 1. The electron temperature ratio T_<e⊥>/T_<e⫽ > depends strongly on the ratio τ/ τ_⫽. The magnitude of the potential obtained in the simulation has a tendency to decreasing with the ratio τ/τ_<⫽>.
