Magnetism of a New Spin-1 Material NaV(WO_4)_2(Condensed Matter : Electronic Strucuture, Electrical, Magnetic and Optical Properties)

The magnetism of a new quantum-spin material NaV(WO_4)_2 is studied. The crystal structure shows a zig-zag S = 1 spin chain along the c axis. The magnetic susceptibility shows that the material has a spin gap. The exchange interaction and the energy gap are estimated to be J = 180K and △E = 26K, respectively. The possibility of a large next-nearest-neighbor interaction is discussed.
