Impurity Effect Study in Spin-Peierls Compound CuGeO_3

We have performed detailed magnetic susceptibility measurements and obtained the temperature vs concentration phase diagram of doped CuGeO_3. First-order phase transitions between dimerized AF (D-AF) and uniform AF (U-AF) phases were observed in Mg-, Zn-(S = 0) and Ni(S = 1)-doped CuGeO_3, which means that the present phase transition is universal in Cu_<1-x>M_xGeO_3. The temperature vs concentration phase diagram was obtained also in CuGe_<1-y>Si_yO_3 and the phase transition is of the second order. This is the first experimental result which shows the qualitative difference between site-doping effect and bond-doping effect in CuGeO_3.
