The ground state energy of small metallic superconductor is discussed with the use of BCS theory improved with respect to electron number conservation by Iwamoto and Onishi. The results are compared with those of perturbation theory and computer diagonalization of the Hamiltonian. It is shown that the method gives a good results even for a very small particle when the pairing interaction is not too small.
