Friction of a soliton in the one-dimensional φ^4 system is studied. It is generated by momentum transfer between the soliton and thermally excited phonons. Quantum effect is studied by taking account of quantum statistics for the phonon distribution. Mori's formula for the friction coefficient is calculated, using the collective coordinate method, in which the soliton location is introduced with the help of a canonical transformation. The result is compared with the classical one obtained previously. It is shown that the friction coefficient is reduced by the quantum decrease of the thermal phonons and has the temperature dependence of an activation type, where the activation energy is the lowest frequency of the optical phonons.
