The Taylor instability in a rotating fluid between two coaxial cylinders is studied. An equation which governs the time-dependent behavior f the flow velocity amplitude near the instability point is derived .The stationary amplitude of the flow velocity is calculated numerically with the aid of the Galerkin method. Results of the numerical calculations are shown to be in good agreement with experimental data on the mean torque and the local flow velocity.
