A Microscopic Theory of the Back-Flow Effect in He-II

The back-flow effect in liquid Helium II is studied under the assumption that interparticle potential is strong. The method devised by Lee, Low and Pines is applied to the system which consists of an impurity atom and the Bogoliubov quasi-particles. The dipolar back-flow and the effective mass of the impurity atom is calculated. It is shown that they are insensitive to the detailed knowledge of the strong interaction. The same method is applied to the problem of a moving source interacting with a neutral scalar field.
