The effect of the pairing interaction on nuclear spectrum is studied with the aid of the modern theory of superconductivity developed by B. C. S. and Bogoliubov. As the states near the ground state have been studied by many authors, we employ a statistical dynamical approach to examine the gross behaviour of the excited states. For the nuclei of medium weight, a phase transition is predicted at the transition energy of some 5 to 10 Mev. The level density below this energy is greatly different from that expected on extrapolating it from higher energy side. It is discussed that the imaginary part of the optical potential can be much smaller than that obtained by the Fermi gas model.
