Effectiveness of a tuned roller damper (TRD) is examined using a single-story shear model-structure. The equation of reciprocal motion between the TRD and the structure is derived and the response of those by harmonically excited forces is analyzed using a fourth-order Runge-Kutta method. It is found that the responses calculated agrees well with those obtained by the experiments. About 50 and 80 percent less acceleration responses on the structure are obtained when the mass-ratio of the TRD to the structure is taken to be 0.9 and 5.0 percent respectively.
