To repair box culverts damaged by corrosion of reinforcing bars or some other causes, posttensioning prestresses are introduced along the inside-wall of a box-culvert. The feasibility of the repairing scheme is described based on the results obtained by both analyses and experiments. A finite element method for calculating elastic solids is used to determine the layout of tendons and the safety of cross sections reduced by a kerf for the tendon. Experiments with the model of a part of box-culverts and with its full-sized specimen are then performed to assure the effect of prestressing.
