Thermochromic VO2-Nanocoated SiO2 Nanopowder Fabricated by Chemical Solution Deposition

VO2-nanocoated SiO2 (VOx–SiO2) particles were prepared by chemical solution deposition. The precursor VOx–SiO2 powder was prepared by coating vanadium 2-methoxyethanol alkoxide solution onto SiO2 nanoparticles. The VO2–SiO2 powder could be obtained easily by annealing the precursor powder at 200 °C for 1 h in air, without an inert or reduction atmosphere. The crystallinity of the precursor VO2–SiO2 powder was improved by heat treatment at 600 °C in Ar atmosphere. The resulting VO2–SiO2 powder showed a thermochromic property and a transition temperature of 68.4 °C.
