The changes in the morphology and mechanical property of natural rubber vulcanizates subjected to large strains were studied by atomic force microscopy. Natural rubber was stretched uniaxially at different extension ratios of up to 7.3. The natural rubber formed line structures several micrometers in width along the strain direction in the force field. Each line structure was composed of parts with different hardnesses, which were deformed locally in different manners. It suggested that natural rubber disobeys the assumption of "affine deformation." It was also found that there exist structures on the nanometer scale. The micron-scale domain structures obtained were composed of nanoscale structures and stress concentration occurring at the boundary between domain structures.
