Carbanions of alkyl <I>p</I>-tolyL sulfones reacted with carbon tetrahalides to give the corresponding polyhalogenated products in good yields. Some chlorinated sulfones were converted to unsymmetrical ketones by treatment with silver perchlorate in trifluoroacetic acid.
