The polymeric Mn(III) Schiff base complexes react with superoxide ions (O<SUB>2</SUB><SUP>−</SUP>) in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) to give the oxygenated complexes, while the corresponding monomeric Mn(III) complexes are reduced with O<SUB>2</SUB><SUP>−</SUP> to the Mn(II) complexes.
