Acenaphthenequinone was obtained in 95% yield when the reaction of 1-acenaphthenone with <I>N</I>-bromosuccinimide was carried out in dimethyl sulfoxide at room temperature. Under similar conditions, several acenaphthenequinones were prepared from the corresponding 1-acenaphthenones in good yields.
