The photolysis of <I>N</I>-alkylamides containing FeCl<SUB>3</SUB> using monochromatic light corresponding to the absorption maxima were examined by ESR. Irradiation by 313-nm light resulted mainly in a hydrogen abstraction from the aliphatic carbon adjacent to either CO or NH, whereas 366-nm light produced an acyl radical in larger amounts.
