2-Phenylthio-2-(dimethylsulfuranylidene)acetophenone was obtained in good yield by the reaction of dimethylphenacylsulfonium bromide with <I>N</I>,<I>N</I>-diethylbenzenesulfenamide. The reaction of dimethyl-α-methylphenacylsulfonium bromide with <I>N</I>,<I>N</I>-diethylbenzenesulfenamide gave α-phenylthioacrylophenone in good yield. The reactions of α-phenylthioacrylophenone thus obtained with various active methylene compounds were investigated.
