The phthalazine triplet and the hydrogen-abstracted radical were obtained in ethanol <I>etc</I>. at room temperature, suggesting that the T1 is of nπ* type, whereas only the T–T absorption spectrum was obtained in acidic ethanol as reported in EPA glass at 77 K.
