A photochemical intermediate possibly attributed to linear S8 has been found with a flash-photolysis technique and a rigid-glass technique. The decay behavior of transient in ethanol at room temperature between 10 and 100 ms may be interpreted in terms of the dimerization and polymerization of the linear S8.
