Absorption and phosphorescence spectra were studied for <I>p</I>-methylacetophenone in 3-methylpentane—isopentane mixed solvent at low temperature. From the concentration and temperature dependencies of the absorption spectrum, it is concluded that the monomer-dimer equilibrium exists in the solution of the <I>p</I>-methylacetophenone at low temperature. The phosphorescence of <I>p</I>-methylacetophenone in the mixed solvent at low temperature was found to be composed of two components, with lifetimes of 23 and 42 ms at 77 K. They are ascribed to the π,π* triplet states of the monomer and dimer, respectively.
