• Irradiation of 1,4-diphenyl-5-amino-1,2,3-triazole (<B>1a</B>) gives 4-phenyl-5-anilino-1,2,3-triazole (<B>2a</B>) and the reverse photochemical reaction is possible. Hence, the reaction is reversible, the ratio of <B>1a</B> : <B>2a</B> in equibrium being 1.2–1.7, which is different from the ratio 0.33 in the thermal reaction (Dimroth rearrangement). The mechanism is discussed on the basis of spectral data and analogous reactions.
