When 2′,3′-<I>O</I>-isopropylidene-<I>O</I><SUP>2</SUP>,5′-cyclouridine (<B>1</B>) was allowed to react with methanol in the presence of <I>p</I>-toluenesulfonic acid at room temperature, 5′-<I>O</I>-methyl-2′,3′-<I>O</I>-isopropylideneuridine was obtained in good yield. Similarly, with the use of boron trifluoride etherate, <B>1</B> reacted smoothly with diphenyl phosphate to give the corresponding 5′-phosphorylated product.
